Storytelling is one of the most important skills in copywriting…
A well-told story has the power to transform and ice-cold prospect, who doesn’t know your biz from Adam, into a raving customer… in matter of minutes.
Yet, it’s my reckoning most copywriters don’t spend enough time sharpening their storytelling chops, preferring to rely on boring old features & benefits instead.
In today’s highly competitive markets, that lazy approach doesn’t cut it anymore. So…
… becoming a brilliant storyteller is a MUST.
Luckily for you, I’ve got a little exercise you can do on the regular to quickly turn yourself into a storytelling maestro. I’ve been doing this a lot recently, and it’s a TON of FUN.
But before I share this exercise with you, I must give credit where credit is due.
I first heard about this idea from fellow entrepreneur, Tej Dosa — A.K.A. @ComedicBizman on Twitter.
It’s a doozy.
Here’s how it works:
At the end of each day, sit down and write out your day as a story.
That’s all there is to it. I know it sounds simple…
Almost too simple.
But it’s truly powerful stuff.
And if you do this on a consistent basis, you’ll be hard pressed NOT to become a much better writer & storyteller.
Now, I will admit, I don’t do this everyday.
‘Cause quite frankly, some days I spend the bulk of my time writing copy… and as much as I love doing that… it doesn’t make for an interesting story.
However…
I try to do this writing exercise at least 3 or 4 times per week, because:
#1 – It encourages me to live a more exciting life. And…
#2 – It’s a fun way to practice writing stories.
So, if you fancy having some extra motivation to live life to fullest, and leveling up your storytelling skillz in the process, I highly recommend giving this writing exercise a go.
Stay sharp,
Kenneth Turnbull
