If you want to understand human psychology… look no further than video games.
Because right now, one of the fastest-growing gaming trends ain’t about escaping reality…
It’s about simulating work.
Yeah, games where you “escape” real life by pretending to do a job.
Lawn Mower Simulator… PowerWash Simulator… Truck Driver Simulator… Even House Flipper, where you clean and renovate houses.
At first glance, it seems nuts.
Why would anyone come home from their actual job, just to simulate work for fun?
But when you think about it, it makes total sense.
Because these games strip away all the frustrating B.S. that comes with real work.
- No pointless meetings.
- No Slack notifications breaking your focus every 30 seconds.
- No boss micromanaging you.
- No clients sending “just a quick revision” emails at 11 PM.
It’s just pure work. No distractions.
You get into a flow state — the tasks feel effortless, time flies, and there’s a constant, satisfying feedback loop of progress.
And I reckon that’s why these types of games have become so popular.
Contrary to popular belief, most folks don’t hate work in general.
People crave the good parts of work… free from interruptions, chaos, and corporate nonsense that can make many real jobs feel exhausting.
And honestly?
Writing emails feels a lot like the good kind of work.
When you shut off distractions, get in the zone, and just write, it feels like you’re playing a game.
The words flow…
You get a dopamine hit when you craft a killer hook…
And an even bigger one when you hit send and watch sales roll in.
Best of all?
Unlike those poor souls mowing fake grass for fake money…
You’re getting paid real cash to play. Now, if writing emails doesn’t feel fun for you yet…
It’s probably because you’re still stuck overthinking, second-guessing, or staring at a blank screen.
But that’s easily fixed.
